How long will it take to get my order?

While every effort will be made to dispatch orders as soon as they are received, please allow up to 14 days for delivery. Delivery is by Royal Mail first class within the UK and by airmail or courier to the rest of the world. A signature may be required.  We would ask that you allow for weekends and public holidays.

We’re so confident that you’ll be delighted with your purchases from makebelieve that we offer the following guarantees. Try any product for 7 days. If it does not completely live up to your expectations, then simply return it for a full refund, stating your reasons why.

Returns policy

You must return orders to us within 30 days of original receipt. Please return products in the original packaging and good condition (we cannot accept returns if opened or used where more than 25% has been used). A covering note should also be included with your name, address, email and reference number to:

We will refund your purchase within 28 working days of receiving the goods. If the goods are returned due to incorrect supply, we will also refund the postage and packaging costs.

Can I cancel or amend my online order?

Once your order has been placed we can't cancel it or make any changes. Unfortunately it isn't possible for you to amend items within your order once it has been placed and paid for. Under UK Distance Selling laws, you have the right to cancel your contract with us, within 7 working days of receiving your order. You will need to advise us of this so we can issue you with a full refund and we would ask you to return the cancelled items to us. If we do not receive the cancelled items back, we may arrange to have them collected at your cost. If you want to cancel your contract with us, please contact us by email or phone.

How do I pay?

This site uses PayPal to process your order and take your payment, however you can pay by using credit/debit card, you do not need a PayPal account PayPal online is a secure payment method. We do not accept cash or cheques.

How do makebelieve self tanning products work?

Makebelieve products contain two safe active ingredients that work together to give you a natural-looking tan that reacts to your body’s own melanin. The first is DHA (dihydroxyacetone) a form of sugar derived from plant sources that cause a chemical reaction to take place on the outer layers of the skin. DHA reacts with amino acids in the skin to form a suntan coloured effect without stimulation of UV rays. Hence a sunless and safe tan evolves. Our second tanning ingredient, Erythrulose, is a derivative of DHA that reacts with keratin and amino acids in the skin that promotes a natural golden colour, reducing the ‘orange’ affect so commonly associated with many self-tan products. Erythrulose also helps prevent streaking and contributes to a longer lasting and hydrated skin.

How long will my tan last?

A makebelieve tan can last 4-7 days depending on how you care for your skin. Moisturising will help prolong the tan and exfoliating with makebelieve Spa & Polish before applying a makebelieve self tan will help buff the skin and get rid of unwanted dead skin cells.

I have never used Makebelieve before how can I test it on my skin?

It is advisable to test a small patch before applying all over to ensure that you are not allergic to any of the ingredients.

What is the different between makebelieve Self Tan Lotion and Gradual Self Tan?

Makebelieve Self Tan Lotion contains more active tanning ingredients (DHA) than Gradual Self Tan so you will get a slightly darker and longer lasting tan from our Self Tan Lotion. Both lotions go on clear and develop into a tan within 4 hours. Gradual Self Tan is designed to be applied over a number of days so that you are in control of your tan and can build it over a week to your desired colour.  You can also use Gradual Self Tan to top up and extend an existing tan whether it’s from the sun or a makebelieve self tan.

Why do self tanners smell?

The smell of self tan comes from the reaction on the skin to DHA (the active tanning ingredient). A makebelieve tan means the typical self tan smell doesn’t exit and that’s what makes a makebelieve tan quite different from other self tan products out there. Makebelieve includes a Rainforest Blend of ingredients including: Cohune Oil; Brazil Nut Oil and All Spice Extract that also intensely moisturise the skin leaving it soft, smooth and toned.

Why is makebelieve different?

A makebelieve tan is a very natural-looking tan that smells indulgently exotic – due to the Rainforest Blend of ingredients, fruit extracts and beneficial moisturising oils such as coconut oil, jojoba oil and Shea Butter. As a result a makebelieve tan not only looks good, it smoothes, tones and moisturises the skin and can help reduce the appearance of cellulite. Our facial self tanning products also contain ingredients specifically for the face such as CoQ10 and Liftiliss which help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles – so there is no need to use a moisturiser and self tan. Our facial products do the job of both!

Is makebelieve tested on animals?

No

Can makebelieve protect me from UV exposure?

No. There are no sun protection factors in makebelieve and you should always use products with SPFs before you expose yourself to prolonged periods in the sun.

Can makebelieve be used during pregnancy?

It is always advisable to check with your doctor before using a self tan when pregnant. To our knowledge there are no known toxins in DHA (the active tanning ingredient in makebelieve). All of our products have a list of ingredients on the outer packaging which should be consulted before use if you are concerned.  However, it is not advisable to apply to breasts if breastfeeding.

How long do I need to wait before showering?

You can wash after only 4 hours of applying but the tan can go on developing for a further 4 hours if you wish.

Can I swim once I have applied makebelieve?

Once your tan has developed for 4 hours you can swim, shower or exercise, however chlorinated water may reduce the colour of your tan.

Do you have an ethical sourcing policy?

We have a responsibility to our customers, colleagues and supply partners to ensure that makebelieve products are produced under acceptable conditions and in an ethical way. This means that they must have been produced:

• Lawfully, through fair & honest dealing;
• Without exploiting the people who made them;
• In decent working conditions and;
• Without damaging the environment

How do I obtain a list of ingredients for a product?

The European Community has required the cosmetics industry to write all ingredients on each product for greater transparency. The International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients (INCI) aims to harmonize labelling on a European level. Ingredients are listed on product packaging by their INCI name so they appear standardised across European countries. What is the shelf life of your products?

All of our products display the open jar symbol so that you know how many months the product will last once opened. After opening, your product will last for several months as long as it is protected from ambient temperature, and used in a clean environment, never mixed with other products and carefully closed after each use
